Mother’s Day always sneaks up on me. One minute it’s still freezing and I’m in survival mode, and the next it’s suddenly May and I’m trying to figure out what actually feels like a good gift this year. Not just something pretty, but something she’ll really use, love, and maybe even keep for herself instead of “saving for later.”
If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I love a mix of practical and a little indulgent. The kind of things that make everyday life feel a bit more elevated. Whether you’re shopping for your mom, your mother-in-law, a new mom, or just sending this as a hint (highly recommend), I pulled together a mix of things that feel thoughtful, useful, and just a little bit special.
Because if there’s ever a time to lean into the “treat yourself” energy, it’s Mother’s Day.
The “little luxuries she won’t buy herself”
These always hit. Elevated versions of everyday things.
- A really good candle (like the kind that actually smells expensive): You can’t go wrong with a Jo Malone candle. English Pear and Freesia is my fav scent!
- Cozy but chic slippers: I love a hard-bottom slipper, so you can wear them outside too!
- A silk pillowcase: The real thing, not a satin one!
- A “nice” version of something she already uses daily: A nice body wash and lotion set to make every morning feel luxe.
Sentimental but not cheesy
Every mom loves meaningful, but still wearable or display-worthy gifts.
- Simple gold jewelry with meaning: These initial necklaces feel personal and understated, without screaming mom.
- A sentimental photo frame: This three-pane frame is perfect for telling her story in one place. A photo of her with her mom, one of her with you, and one with the grandkids
- Custom Sketch: Send in your mom’s favorite photo and get a real hand-sketched canvas.
- Custom embroidery: This woven tote is chic and super useful.
- Photobooks: I love chatbooks and make one for every trip we take. You can make a special one or gift mom a year of books to help her watch the kiddos grow.
The hobby gifts
The best gifts are the ones that match how she spends her time, not just what looks pretty.
- Needlepoint kits or canvases: I love these beginner kits that include everything she will need for a new hobby.
- Gardening tools or pretty planters: For the mom with a green thumb.
- Cookbooks or specialty kitchen tools: For the mom who wants to start baking her own sourdough
- Pickleball Set: For the mom who likes to stay active or wants a fun new hobby. It’s social, easy to learn, and a cute set makes it even better.
- Travel Mah Jong Set: Mah Jong is having a moment, and a travel set makes it easy to bring along for girls’ nights, weekends away, or even just playing outside.
- Pilates set: The Stakt mat is a game-changer. It folds, doubles as a block, and makes at-home workouts feel way more put-together.
